I love Kamut. It is my favorite grain in terms of flavor, how I feel after I eat it, and ease of use when baking.
Here are the recipes from this mornings baking adventures!
Kamut Pancakes:
3 C Fresh Ground Organic Kamut Flour
1 C White Flour
1/2 C FG (Fresh Ground) Whole Brown Flax
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
6 eggs
3 tbs Olive Oil
3 C milk (any milk will work, rice milk actually gives the pancakes a wonderful flavor!)
Mix all ingredients and fry in a frying pan with a little olive oil. Serve with syrup….etc..

As for Xena Carpenter, I don’t know her, I don’t read her web site, and I don’t know who she is…nor do I know who Sherry Shriner is.

As for her claims that I move around alot.  I have lived in the same home in Colorado for fifteen years.  And our family has lived in Boulder County for nineteen years.

I am not a person who uses a ton of aliases on the web.  In fact almost all of my blog posts, articles, books, and chat room posts have been done using my own name.

As for me playing some “poor me” act, I am not a victim, nor do I play any role other than wanting to hold those who have attacked me and my work on the web accountable for the crimes against me and my family.  What sort of low life cretinous criminal would attack a three year old while he is out shopping with his mother?

I believe Anthony Fauci, Mr. vaccine himself, was one of the first to throw a nasty, toxic load on me and two of my sons as we shopped at the King Soopers grocery store in Lafayette Colorado the wednesday after Easter in 2007.

That particular attack has made me wonder if Andrew, my son, and I will ever have full lung capacity.

Evidence for psycho-social engineering through Wikipedia’s yellow press is found in many places. For instance, its review of alternative medicine falsely implies the entire field is unscientific.

Common sense suggests fraud. Since when is a whole field “unscientific,” since science is applied to every field? Nutrition, for example, is a vital part of alternative medicine. When did the entire field of nutrition become unscientific? More importantly, who is served by this disinformation nonsense?

Shedding light on the “dark editors” that Wikipedia encourages to violate common sense and experts’ biographies on behalf of CIA/FBI corporate commissioners was difficult until recently. I was just over on Andrew Breitbarts site and watched the above reports from 60 minutes that ran tonight and a radio program, The Victory Sessions, where Andrew called for Spencer Baucus to resign for insider trading…

Quite a few Congress Critters on both sides of the isle were outed during the 60 minutes report.

These stories reminded me of the first article I wrote for Blogging Mothers Magazine in 2010 where I asked President Obama about his Pharmaceutical stock purchases around the first bi partisan pandemic legislation he proposed as a Freshman Senator in 2005.

I said:

OK, so the whole world has watched all of you act, and act, and act… and today we were informed that the pandemic alert will be maintained at level six.  Articles have been written, movies and news reports have been made, lives have been permanently altered, and potentially millions of peoples health has been ruined, and/or lives ended.  My final question Mr. Obama is how much money did you make on your stock purchase from Baxter over the past five years and how dare your wife lecture the American People on health issues like obesity while the biggest health fraud of the past hundred years plays out and you and your administration are up to your elbows in the whole scandal?”

It was around the time that I put together that article that Sherri Kane and Len Horowitz were connecting the dots between Goldman Sachs, Big Pharma, and Media and the Crisis Capitalists who made bank on the BP Oil Explosion.

It appears that this playing of the stock market around crisis is just good business on wall street, and now that our congress critters are being exposed as being in on the game, I say its time to THROW THEM ALL OUT.

Last night they published an article commenting on Michele Bachmanns supposed policy flaws as a candidate for POTUS.

I made a statement that could be interpreted either in support of Michele or it could be supposed that I was dumping on her because of the way it was written.  Long term readers of this blog know that I endorsed Michele for president about as soon as she announced her candidacy.  I have loved her ever since watching her give a tea party speech on You Tube.  I think she would be an awesome first female president for the USA.

In my post at Huff Po I said this:

My interpretation of this comment is that with Michele’s Spine O Steel, they can try to take her out, but will not succeed.

A couple of months ago I wrote a comment at Huff Po that was also deleted.  I blogged about it here:

Since they published my comment about Bachmann, I thought I would start a new category on my blog, “Huff Po Down the Memory Hole”.  Every time I post a comment on that site, I will copy it here and create a quick blog post and if it is deleted, I will publish the post, and if it is kept on the site, I won’t.

Now that the election season is truly heating up the rhetorical exchanges are going to increase and in order to keep the mods at the various sites honest, this will be my simple attempt to question why my comments are deleted from the conversation.

The whole reason I started blogging was because of the extreme bias I experienced as a conservative on the Mothering Magazine Discussion Forum. I joined the forum in June of 2004 and within two weeks I had been told that if I did not stop bating the liberals I was going to be banned. I informed the mods who banned me that if we ever were truly Socialized in America they should look for work as Thought Police because they had the job down pat.  They were not amused.

I was able to last a few more months by extreme moderation in my own tone, but one day I just was so fed up with my comments being deleted, my threads being “pulled for review”, my name being sullied by people whose comments were allowed to stand, that I finally wrote a post that I knew would get me banned. I cut and pasted the comment that confirmed my banning at Mothering over at Free Republic.  Here is a link to it…

Mothering made it so only those long time members are able to see certain boards, like War and Politics etc…so the bulk of my threads and comments you can’t see unless if you are a participant on the board.  Since I mostly posted on the Political Board those comments won’t show up.

The thing is, I never attacked people personally, I only attacked IDEAS.  I was always kind, used no profanity, and bent over backwards to engage in thoughtful debate about war and politics, but it was my willingness to use whatever words were at my disposal to attack and attack and attack collectivism that put the mods panties in a wad.

I was surprised this past summer that when attempting to post some links and quotes about Rupert Murdoch on Free Republic I was permanently banned from the site.   

As I tried multiple times to Tell the TRUTH about Rupert Murdoch, my comments were deleted almost as fast as I typed them and all three times I tried to link to that story, it was deleted and then I was banned.

I had been a member in good standing since 2003 and was so happy participating on that forum.  I made so many activist friends and spent many happy hours chatting away and organizing Freeps – “tea parties” before they were called tea parties.

I was well aware of a group of health care trolls who dumped on me and my threads every time I tried to post something about natural family living.  I had dealt with those paid pharma whores for years, but this was different, an outright banning just because I am trying to share more good information with my Freeper Pals?  It just made me mad.

I understand that being an internet moderator in this day and age is not an easy job and I understand if those who deleted felt that my words incited deep emotional reactions.  That is why I take the time to write them.  I WANT to incite deep emotional reactions and engage in debate with anyone interested in these important topics.  The CLASH of ideas is the sound of FREEDOM.  It has been the lack of debate that has enabled our society to get to the place where over half of us felt comfortable voting for a Flaming Marxist.

Andrew Brietbarts efforts to educate seekers of truth have truly helped me to see more clearly that Political Correctness is in fact Cultural Marxism.  Because I choose to live free, I will not bow down to the Gods of “can’t we all just get along”, because that path leads to slavery and death.

It is going to be a wild ride this next year as the debate about how we are going to live as Americans plays out in the Marketplace of Ideas.

I look forward to participating in every spare minute I can carve out of my life.

NYT: Will This Election Be the Mormon Breakthrough? 

In this article Bloom dumps on the Latter Day Saints as well as the Tea Party, so for me it was a double whammy…

“Rather than living in reality they yield to what oddly are termed “cultural” considerations: moral and spiritual, or so their leaders urge them to believe. Under the banners of flag, cross, fetus, exclusive marriage between men and women, they march onward to their own deepening impoverishment. Much of the Tea Party fervor merely repeats this gladsome frolic.”

The article was such a mish mash of incoherent blatherings that it was difficult to recognize what point Professor Bloom was trying to make.  Professors of his stature often forget that Humanism is in fact a religion. A religion as easily defined and practiced as my Mormon Faith.

His Point seemed to be:

Tea Partying Mormons influencing the electorate with their morals = BAAAADDDD

Secular Humanistically Inclined Yale Professors of English dumping on those of us who teach our families eternal truths = GOOOOOODDD (Bloom fails to question if his lifes work and decades of indoctrinating the nations youth in relativistic nothingness has led to students pooping on cop cars as a form of “speech”)

Bloom finished up his piece with this little nugget of insight:

“Mormonism’s best inheritance from Joseph Smith was his passion for education, hardly evident in the anti-intellectual and semi-literate Southern Baptist Convention. I wonder though which is more dangerous, a knowledge-hungry religious zealotry or a proudly stupid one? Either way we are condemned to remain a plutocracy and oligarchy. I can be forgiven for dreading a further strengthening of theocracy in that powerful brew.”

One has to wonder if the current nightmare of Marxist Moonbattery that has taken over the White House, which is the intellectual bastardized political child that Bloom and his cohorts in Academia have been gestating in the halls of ivy on American Students since the late 1800′s, is preferable to a little bit of Mormon Pioneer Zealotry, horse sense, and practical economic philosophy, often simplified in this couplet: Use it Up, Wear it Out, Make it Do, or Do Without!

Society should have one simple test for those who would presume to teach the nations youth, and run for Political office:

Start your own business and run it successfully with no outside help from anyone and show a profit after a couple of years, and you can have the honor of attempting to teach young people in a University setting.  If we were to set up that standard of “purity” for our society, we could fix this thing in a generation…

NOTE FROM JENNY HATCH

Over the years a few people have asked me why I keep talking about this story of Larry Sinclair and Barack Obama. I first heard about Larry Sinclair when he posted his You Tube Video requesting that Mr. Obama come clean on his drug use back before the election.  I was a member of Free Republic and within minutes of the video hitting the web people were talking about it on Free Republic.

I started doing investigative work around the web and just quietly followed the story.  When I heard about the murder of Donald Young and listened to the interviews that Pastor James David Manning conducted with Larry on You Tube, I became increasingly convinced that not only was Barack Obama a complete fraud, he probably was in office because of the murder of a choir director in Chicago.  Now maybe this story stuck in my craw because I am a church singer, or maybe it was because I have an overdeveloped sense of justice, maybe I was incensed because the gay community in Chicago appeared to have been terrorized to the point where they were not willing to speak out, or maybe I just hated the fact that an obvious Marxist and his minions had overtaken the government.  I don’t know what it was, but I felt compelled to write and speak about it.  I even invited Larry to come on my radio show to talk about it once, but he declined.  At any rate, I believe him.  And I believe the stinking cesspool of corruption festering in Chicago needs to be drained and the disinfecting light of truth and inquiry allowed to work its magic and set the terrorized of Chicago free to speak out.

I would ask readers to spend a few minutes today listening to these radio interviews, watching the videos and then ponder if it is possible that a murder in Chicago enabled Barack Obama to set himself up as King of the World.

For eight years during the 90′s I was one big lactating mass of motherhood.

I started nursing Allison in Jan of 92 and did not stop until eight years later when Andrew turned 3 in the fall of 99.

I have always been a diligent journal writer and some of my best stuff has been written while in the throes of new mother sleep deprivation.  Most of the content for my first three books was captured from my personal journals written during those early years mothering my older children.  It sort of became a running joke in my journal that I would begin the entry by writing, “I should be washing dishes right now, but I feel like writing.”

I can promise you reader, the dishes did eventually get done, but I am so grateful that I had the focus back then to lay housework aside every once in a while and share what was in my heart in the pages of those journals.

This morning I awoke at four am and found myself feeling the same old tug, to go to the computer and start typing…

When Andy, the baby in the above picture, was three, I weaned him on his third birthday.  I had weaned Jeff at the same time and for consistencies sake, decided to stop on September 7th, 1999.  Three weeks after the wean I had this burst of emotional, mental, and physical creativity hit my body and mind like a tornado of renewal and force.  It was real and I realized how much of my own energy and essence had been invested into my children during those eight years of on demand, baby led, LLL Style, breastfeeding.

As the energy hit the Holy Spirit whispered, “NOW it is time to write Jen”.  I had experienced many spiritual promptings during those years that I was supposed to write about Mothering and continually felt frustrated that I did not have the time or energy to write anything more than a few paragraphs every couple of days.

I began with my first book A Mothers Journey.  Every morning I would wake up at four am, sneak down to the basement where our family computer was stashed and start typing.  I would type for an hour or two until the children woke up and then I would begin my day of mothering.  I found that I was able to edit with the family around, but I could not find the mental energy to type unless if it was quiet and I was alone undisturbed…

Thus began my writing adventures. I feel like I should insert here that I am not a writer.  I don’t have any training in writing and make many grammatical and speling errors in my books and blog posts.  I also don’t have much time for editing and perfecting of books and posts.  All of my books, blog posts, and comments on the internet are riddled with typos and a general smashing of the English Language. And my ability to communicate has constantly been questioned by those English Teacher trolls who generally have nothing to add to a debate beyond, “Hey Jenny Hatch, you suck as a writer because you mispeled a word.”  I usually ignore these people as a waste of my precious time, but it does get annoying, they seem to think that those of us sharing on the web have to pass some certified test of grammer and syntax and word usage and editing and punctuation!!!!! if we don’t we are somehow not worthy to rite or share our thoughts on the web.  Rong! We Mom Bloggers are just as able and willing to add decent web Kontent to the Marketplace of Idears as anyone in the werld.

As the years passed and I found myself engaging more and more on the web, I really questioned the amount of time spent debating, writing, and posting.  Was this important?  Should I deep clean the bathroom more often?  I justified my time spent on these endeavors by thinking about how much my words would have meant to new Mama Jenny Hatch when I was getting started in my mothering.  Back in the 80′s I had to spend copious amounts of time at the local library doing research and requesting inter library loaned books to find the information that I was seeking about Natural Mothering.

The web had not been thought of and blogging was a distant dream hidden in shadows.  Whenever I typed those heartfelt posts and books, I always thought of the young mom surrounded by medical insanity who was being told to ignore every instinct towards what was natural and healthy by everyone around her.  I wrote for her and for her children.

This past summer I took a huge blogging break to spend more precious time with my oldest daughters who were preparing to leave home for College.  I had the thought, I will spend more time on my blog when Ben starts third grade.  I have invested 22 years into my family and although we had homeschooled him last year, I was determined to “get my day back” and have hours and hours to spend perfecting these little happy homes on the web known as The Natural Family Blog and Blogging Mothers Magazine.

Life sometimes demands something different.

Last week Ben stopped attending our local elementary and is now home.  And I once again find myself in the roll of homeschooling Mother.  Our local school was not a good fit for him and we lost our slot at the Charter when he pulled out last year.  So many conflicting thoughts swirling around in my head.  The main thing I find myself mourning is just the luxury of time alone, time to think, time to enjoy the quiet and a less hectic day.  Its not like spending time with an eight year old is one big neverending morass of pain and suffering, but it will “rob” me of hours that could have been spent in more creative pursuits, like the ultimate three minute You Tube, or the most hilarious spoof on hospital birth every created that goes viral in less than eight hours, and the most enlightening and inspiring post ever conceived on the joys of Orgasmic Birth.

I can see these posts and videos in the distance….waving at me, but an eight year old needs his mom, and now my boys at Seminary will be walking in the door in about fifteen minutes and they will be wanting breakfast, and a pile of laundry and dishes is calling to me from the corners of the house…..”Jeeeennnnnnyyyy, come wash me, come clean me, come organize me…..”  And I have to relagate blogging back to the shadows of my life as I FOCUS on the needs of one of the most precious people in my life.

It is now 6:39 am.  Time to stop typing and time to start Mothering.  I’ll be back, but no promises about ANYTHING.  If I miss a month or two publishing the magazine, or I don’t post for a couple days…you will know that I am helping with a Saxon Math lesson, going on a field trip to the mountains, or visiting a museum with my son.  And what I really think about it…who cares if I spend five hours a week blogging instead of fifteen hours or twenty or thirty?  How many times can you zing the medicos for the dismal way they do EVERYTHING???  Wether I say it in thirty words or six hundred, the message is the same.

Grab your Sovereignty Mama, and NEVER let it go!

Last night I gave my audition tape to the director of the Broomfield Choral Festival. I’m trying for the Soprano solo in movement 5 of the Brahms Requiem.

It wasn’t a very professional audition. I hardly rehearsed with my friend Karen who accompanied on the piano, and we only did the first two pages of the Aria. I figured the director is good enough that he could tell whether or not he wanted to hear more from me from those few bars of singing, and I didn’t want to waste his time by auditioning the whole thing.

That solo is six minutes and sixteen seconds long and the soprano soloist carries pretty much the whole movement. I will be thrilled to get the chance to sing it if he asks me to do it. But if not, it felt good to audition for something again. It has been a long time since I tried for any performing opportunities.

Paul and I sang with the Colorado Mormon chorale a couple years ago for the christmas season, and the first year of our marriage in 1988 we sang with the Detroit Mormon Concert Choir. Both were Christmas concerts, my all time favorite music, as all of the music is about BIRTH!! And for this birth junkie, to have the world’s most glorious music written about the Unassisted Birth of the Savior of the world is fun to sing!

The Colorado Chorale did Rutter’s Gloria with the Boulder Brass. I have missed singing with a good quality group these past few years. Not that our ward choir is anything to sneeze at, we do a good job and occasional solos and duets are available, but it is nice to sing with a symphony orchestra something BIG!

I used to torture myself by reading the audition notices every week in the newspaper. I stopped doing that when we went digital and gave up our subscriptions to the local papers. Recently I found myself putting my theatre resume together, and I planned to get a head shot taken and go audition for a group that performs during the day called Imagination Makers.

The Imagination makers professional troupe mostly does shows for local school groups, the pay is good, and it was something I potentially could have fit into my life. But I really want to have another baby, and am hoping to get pregnant this fall, so I put my resume away and told myself “I’ll be back”.

One of the things I learned from theatre in my youth is that even if you don’t get the job, it is always a good thing to audition just for practice, so I have no fear of auditioning for anything. I did not audition for the troupe though as I was pretty sure I could land the job, but I did not want the stress of having to make a decision between baby and acting.

But a choir….now that is something I can fit into my life, especially since the rehearsals and performance are in the next town and I know several of the people in the choir and can carpool. Anyway, it is definitely doing something powerful to my soul to be a part of this requiem right now.

I am experiencing a profound healing of my heart every time I sing it. I went through a nasty cleanse last week, just toxins oozing from my skin. In my prayers

I asked Heavenly Father what was bringing up all this new distress and he said the music was helping me to purge another layer of debris out of my body. While this is never fun, it is always pain with a purpose. I can feel my energy centers harmonizing and balancing as I sing this piece of music. I mean balance in a way that my body has NEVER been balanced before. And I have done loads of energy work to line everything up over the years. There is a balancing power in this music, it is profoundly working its way into my heart and soul and I can feel it opening up a new chapter in my life.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE GERMAN REQUIEM:
I know classical music as much as any other amatuer singer. The main type of music I have performed has been classical and Mormon Sacred Music.

I have also performed jazz, barbershop, sang in a couple rock bands (even did some grungy punk in my college days), and I love to sing pop solos and R & B.

I have probably performed Mozart more than anyone other composer over my life span, and was a part of some beautiful classical concerts with my high school and BYU choirs. I have performed portions of the Messiah, contemporary composers etc…

BUT….I have never heard Brahms German Requiem.

This is a mystery to me. How could I get to be 38 years old and never hear this piece of music, never sing a movement from it??

Never know that it even exists???

I set a goal two weeks ago to listen to the requiem and rehearse it at least once a day. I have not quite made that goal, but I have listened to it almost every day, and I have sung it through about eight times now. I’ve listened to and sung the soprano solo about fifty times. I’m listening to the sixth movement right now as I type.

“DEATH, WHERE IS THY STING???”

This master work of musical art was written for birthing mothers! I am absolutely convinced of it. I am also convinced that a healing energy is contained within the text, music, words, rhythm, creshendo, decreshendo, harmony, use of every musical trick under the sun including fugue, aria, relaxed unhurried delivery, seemingly crazy dynamics, gradually increasing tempo with a final triumphant spitting of the text….an almost nah nah na nah nah…..”Death….WHERE is thy STING????”….ha ha ha, you can’t get me… big ol raspberry right in the eye.

Can’t touch ME! With a final solemn resolution of the text and the music in the 7th movement.

I feel waves of spiritual glory wash over me every time I sing it, every time I listen to it, and every time I think about the message of the text.

When I made the concious decision to put my musical endeavors on hold for a time to focus on being a mother in 1988, it was very difficult to give up the applause. I was addicted to it. Every three months or so I was in a show or musical performance from the time I was a child. Quite often I had parts that were the funny character rolls and I really enjoyed making people laugh.

When I met and married my husband, we decided to jump right into family life and conceived our first daughter soon after our wedding. That first year of our life together was one of the happiest of my life.

I was blissfully happy this year and so excited to be a mother. Just a few short weeks after the birth of our daughter, I found myself in a manic state that gradually evolved into full blown psychosis, where I was hallucinating and awake in a dream state for over a month.

Why did this happen? How could my life have so quickly blown to bits? I have spent 18 years researching psychosis and have come up with about ten different triggers (and I had them all at the same time) for why this happened to me. Sexual Abuse sets the stage and other life factors manipulate the mind…I believe the heart of it was simply sleep deprivation. We moved to another state when our daughter was six weeks old, in the dead of winter, and the stress of the move combined with our relocation to a place where we had no friends conspired to set me up for a complete breakdown. I also had some demons from my past that were haunting me during this vulnerable time.

When the happy and joyful parts of my theatrical life stopped in 1989 and I fell into the abyss of depression after being gang raped in the mental hospital, I determined then that part of the blackness I was feeling was simply from a lack of artistic beauty in my life. (The rapes were so traumatic I had no memory of them for twelve years).

I had become so accustomed to feeling that amazing high mix of adrenaline and performance excitement that to have it just stop was a real bummer. In fact I found myself in a depressed, suicidal state that was about as opposite as any joyful high I had yet experienced in life. That good ol law of opposites kicked in really hard.

I remember this year as the time in my life when I didn’t sing.

I did not realize then that the pinnacle creative artistic moment for any mother was to give birth unhindered and with empowerment alone and in harmony with the glory that is available to all, if they only make the decision to grasp this possibility.

Our bodies were designed in the image of our Heavenly Parents and every time we engage in procreative activities like Sex, Birth, and Breastfeeding exquisite, orgasmic JOY is the potential for every Mother on the planet today.

It is only our ignorance about our bodies and the current lies and assumptions that block us from experiencing this hormonal bliss with our husbands and children. (I read once that the Big Pharma Fraud who convinced millions of women that eating horse piss in the form of Premarin, (Pregnant Mares Urine), would balance their hormones, bragged that he could get the American Mother to eat encapsulated Horse Shit if he had the right marketing campaign)…but I digress.

It’s not like husbands and children stand after a meal and with thunderous applause ask for an encore dessert. So much of a womans life is negativity. “do I really have to eat that??” “where is my dress?” “Mom, you forgot….” “But I don’t want to go to bed…”

What I have learned from mothering my little ones is that I only have those babies with me for an instant and then they are grown and off to their own interests and agendas.

Paul and I have always sung to our babies when they were small. We have a repertoire of about ten favorite lullabys that we have used over the years with our children. A clear favorite of all of the children has been the Angel Lullaby from My Turn on Earth. But they also loved Brahms lullaby as well as a variety of primary songs and hymns that we have used to lull them to sleep.

Benjamin has been unique. He wants the same song every night. Even now, on the nights we sing to him he wants I am a Child of God. He calls it “TCHildofDod” and when he asks for the song, he’ll say really fast, like it is one word “tchildofdod”.

We have this fun exchange that we go through at night. I’ll ask him if he wants a lullaby. He thinks about it for a second, and then he says…”yes”, and I’ll ask him which one he wants, and then he pretends to be thinking, and then really fast he’ll say “tchildofdod.” It is his special song.

My prayer is that after hearing it hundreds of times sung to him while he was in the womb and as an infant and toddler, when he hears it in the future, it will “sing” to his soul and remind him of his parents who love him more than life itself, and would do just about anything to help him and keep him safe.

When I was expecting Benjamin I memorized all of he verses of Come Thou Fount and sang them to him over and over while I was pregnant.

Recently I was editing some film footage online and the acapella version of me singing that song came on the computer.  He stopped what he was doing and looked at me, was quiet for a second and then said, “turn it up”,  so I did.

He had twinkle come into his eyes and he gently said, “I love Come Thou Fount”.  At that moment I knew that his spirit remembered me singing it to him while he was in my womb, and it was a sweet and sacred moment for us to share.

I’ve often wondered if I’ve lost anything precious by giving up a music career in exchange for singing lullabys. At times I have honestly wished for the track I was on with musical theatre. But, those sublime moments with my family! I just don’t know that I would have experienced anything like that performing the great works on the various stages of America. I won’t claim that I have had those highs every day or even every week, but I have had them often enough, and with enough regularity that the dark sides of family life that we have experienced have melted away amidst the joy.

I spend alot of time thinking about Zion. One heart, one mind…

Come with rejoicing and singing unto Zion.

If Joseph Smith did nothing else with his life, simply teaching the Saints about the concept of Zion and teaching them some of the ways to achieve it was one of the crowning achievements of his life. The requiem speaks eloquently about Zion. I once read that Joseph Smith believed the Luther translation of the Bible to be superior to the King James Version.

This is interesting to me considering that Lara Hoggard, who translated the German text in the new 1997 English version of the Requiem (that we are singing at the September 10th concert) claimed that the old English versions were highly inaccurate and he went to great efforts to make the text align with Brahms original german version which was based on the Lutheran Bible.

The text is similar to the King James scriptures that I have studied from my youth….

I have an interpretation of these scriptures that is a little different than some might expect.

First a quick story. I met a woman named Wanda on the internet years ago. She had joined an unassisted birth group looking for information on home birth. She had given birth to two very premature babies and at the time I met her, was on the road to recovery herself, trying to find out why her body had such a difficult time holding on to her babies. She was also suffering from multiple chemical sensitivities and a variety of other horrible symptoms. Wanda was determined to learn what had happened to her and her daughters and make things right.

She investigated all sorts of information and was very open to a variety of healing modalities. When I was in contact with her she was doing various cleansing diets, liver flushes, and had moved all chemicals out of her home and out of her diet. I had shared with her some of the healing miracles I had experienced with Young Living Essential Oils and so she invited me to fly back east to teach a one day seminar on the oils.

We had lots of time to chat before and after the seminar and just before I left we were talking about the prophecies for the end times. I shared with her my view that one of the greatest sorrows families could experience were the betrayals of the Medical Profession. She detailed to me more of what she had felt and experienced with her daughters in NICU care for weeks on end, and the various trials they had experienced as a family. The highly paid monopolistic know nothing conglomerate of drugs and surgery that is practicing on woman and babies all over the world is leaving a damaged residue in its wake. I shared with her my belief that many of Isaiahs prophecies were about modern childbirth.

For example, I told her about Isaiah 54 and 3rd Nephi 22 and how I believed that Isaiah was talking about our generation of women. I shared with her my belief that the “singing that thou dids’t not bear” was for those women who have NOT had to experience Babylonian Chemical birthing. And that those scriptures were talking about mothers who had come to the other side of the babylonian nightmare, had claimed their sovereignty and had moved into joy and singing in Zion…”and then your JOY, NO ONE, NONE shall take from you.”

I missed the first crucial hour with my daughter as they were stitching up my belly and she was sent to the nursery after we had a c-section for a breech presentation. I demanded that they bring her to me the minute I was out of surgery, and immediately latched her onto my breast where she stayed firmly attached for most of the next four days of our hospitalization (I have often thought nursing Ally was one of the most difficult things I have ever done.)

The spirit testified to me then that what I was sharing with her was true. She also felt it, and we rejoiced together. I was not surprised to read an email a few years later announcing the birth of Liberty Love, a third daughter born at home to parents who had shaken free from the bonds and chemical nightmare they had suffered through with two previous precious daughters. Wanda was a mother who had walked the dark paths. And she went seeking, looking for some pearls of wisdom. What did she find? What did she learn? She learned what I did after I also took the time and effort to seek it out….Heavenly Father wants his children to experience exquisite joy and happiness around the births of our children!!!

Since the spiritual witness I experienced when I testified to Wanda about my interpretation of those scriptures, (many of which are part of this Requiem), I have become even more convicted in my heart that the chemicals are killing family life and connectedness. And we will never get to a Zion society if we don’t have some Zion FAMILIES first.

The proper hormonal connectedness opens up a window of opportunity. It lays a firm foundation that if the couple chooses to seize the opportunity, can be a lasting and firm foothold to build a Zion Family where husband and wife are of one heart and one mind.

Conversely, a Babylonian birth where mother is needlessly cut and chemically damaged, baby incarcerated for days, weeks, or months of NICU care, and father expected to pay all the bills has a devastating effect on family life. The strong foundation that is needed to build a fully connected family life is often damaged and broken and I believe contributes heavily to the current divorce rate and drug use of teens.

I sometimes observe mothers who have one child. Some of these women have a very sad countenance, or even look angry. A general feeling of rage is often fuming under the surface of her being, and her husband, if he is still around, sometimes has a spirit of guilt and shame about him. These women, I believe, are heros. When I get in close proximity to these mothers and can feel the hurt, I often wonder…”what the heck did they do to you and your child?”

What caused the fountains of life to dry up in your body, so that you either conciously chose NOT to have any more children, or your body made it impossible for you to conceive because the trauma was so bad?

Conversely, when I am around unassisted birthing mothers the joy that is radiating off of them is palpable. They describe the birth experience as “the most amazing event of my life”, “I would have twenty children if I could”, “babies are the greatest gift of life”, and “that was the most empowering experience I have ever had.”

Also, there is a very real sense of joy and jubilation coming from the baby. They engage my eyes and look so full of light. When I think of these babes compared to the NICU babies who are daily traumetized for weeks on end and have the life sucked right out of them by drugs and needless proceedures, I just weep in my heart for the unnecesary suffering.

As I rehearsed that Aria tonight, and I sang the words…”then your heart shall be joyful, and your joy shall no one, no one take from you.” I just screamed it out..”and then, you joy shall no one, NONE take from you”…and it was real, and it was powerful, and it was hope for the future.

The MAIN reason I got into UC birth was because the hospital staff always took my child away from me at the very moment I wanted to be with them the most. At the very moment of birth, all these busybodies were right in our face pulling on the babe, yanking out my placenta, messing with our bodies, and distracting us from the important and crucial work of CONNECTING.

I know I can fight my way to an undrugged birth in a medical environment. I did it two times. But why should I have too? Why should I be forced to go along with hospital policy, when all I want is to give birth and hold my baby in my arms….and NO ONE TAKE MY JOY FROM ME? And have no one distract me from the happiness that I worked nine long months for, and waited my whole life to do and to be.

The presumptuousness of those professionals who think they know best, The absolute PRIDE and arrogance of those who think they know it all, who think they are God’s gift to humanity, who think they are the all knowing, the all being, Godlike all powerful and all doing. THEY ARE NOTHING!! They KNOW NOTHING!! Just about everything they do is fear based and damaging. They cut families off hormonally right at the beginning of the harmony being a possibility. They shove their drugs into the veins of unsuspecting innocents, they cut and they break, and they damage, and they call it healthy and whole and it IS NOT!!

Taking a baby away from its mother and father causes sorrow. A sorrowful heart is the result of messy chemical births. And for what? Safety? So everyone else can feel comfortable? So the parents can relax and trust and know that all is well in Zion, yea Zion prospereth….and all the while the babes scream and shut down in autistic symptoms because they have NO WAY to cope and process what just happened to them. I know of no better example of “carnal security” than a mother and father who blindly trust the medical profession.

I believe Jesus Christ helped Brahms to write that Requiem to help heal the birthing women of the world. I believe he wrote it because he saw our day, he saw what we would be experiencing and he used the prophetic texts that described our day and proved to us that at some point the insanity would stop and one by one we would find our joy….and our JOY would lead us to Zion….and Zion should be what we as saints are working for and fighting for and living for.

What is the purpose of sealing families together forever if they merely tolerate and hate each other in this life? What is the purpose of teaching our children that family can be forever if we just mess with those connections right from the start? Is it possible that the scripture that talks about the whole earth being wasted at his coming is refering to babylonian birthing which disconnects and traumetizes the family at the very moment they are first getting aquainted?

When mother and child greet each other under a drug induced haze, perhaps that sets the pattern for them not being able to connect unless drugs are involved.

As I said, I believe the Requiem was written for our day, written to help heal the broken hearts, and written to give courage and strength to those families who are seeking for Zion. In the D & C it says that those who are not willing to raise a sword against their neighbors must flee to Zion for safety. And is it possible that the sword being raised against our neighbors is in fact a little knife used to cut open the belly of a mother during a c-section??? PEOPLE IT IS TIME TO FLEE TO ZION and get away from those swords!!!

Perhaps Zion is not so much a city as it is a place where mothers and babies can be bonded gently and naturally together, and instead of hating each other for the first five years of that child’s life, and then just barely tolerating each other for the rest of the time the child is in the home, and fleeing from each other when the child becomes an adult, Zion living is accomplished and enabled by Zion birthing and bonding. And then we sing, then we feel the joy, then we feel the connections, and we start to realize the potentiality of eternal living as happy families.

It takes a braveheart to learn the facts and then act on those truths. Parents who desire the best connectivity with children MUST take the time and effort to learn these facts, and then sorrow will flee. Blessed are they who are sorrowful, for they shall have comfort.

I’m excited to learn the outcome of the audition. I can think of few things I would rather do than sing those words, accompanied by a live orchestra at this particular time in my life. Actually, one thing comes to mind. I would love to give birth to another child more than sing that Aria. But if it be Heavens will, perhaps I can do both!

My friend Jaime was kind enough to say yes when I asked if I could practice doing a photo shoot with her.  We spent some time today at her home and various locations around town getting some nice pregnancy photos.

Tonight her husband Eric, who has been our Home Teacher for years, joined in the shoot and shared some of his amazing talent on the video.  Thanks Eric and Jaime.  So the business is officially launched.

January 9, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In a recently released report, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) claimed credit for helping to “shape” the Affordable Care Act signed by President Obama this past March.

“In the latter half of 2009 – in what will surely be remembered as a pivotal achievement – Planned Parenthood worked with its supporters across the nation to help shape and pass the Affordable Care Act,” wrote PPFA President Cecile Richards and PPFA Chair Valerie McCarthy, in a letter published as part of the organization’s 2009-2010 annual report.

The women credit their organization’s “tireless efforts” with the passage of a law that “expands care to millions of women and protects women’s access to essential reproductive care,” and promise their supporters “a promising new era of health care.”

According to many pro-life activists and religious leaders, however, what the “new era” touted by Richards and McCarthy promises is an end to conscience rights for Christian employers and health care providers, and an outpouring of government funding for abortion.

A 2010 statement released by the National Right to Life Committee details multiple ways that the legislation opened the door to such funding.

Supporters of the law, however, have denied that it allows for government funding of abortion services. In a statement released on the one year anniversary of the law’s passage, PPFA said that it opposes the Act’s abortion-related provisions, and would throw its weight behind an effort to liberalize those provisions still more.

According to Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, the recently released report confirms the need for a renewed effort to completely defund the organization.
“Despite an unprecedented effort by statewide and federal leaders to defund them, a wave of former employees willing to testify against them, and uniform agreement amongst Republican presidential candidates that they should be defunded, Planned Parenthood continues full-steam ahead,” she said in a statement. “They are unwilling to answer to the pro-life American majority that wants out of this business.”

American Taxpayers do not want our money being used to abort the children of America.  And we are just one sneeze away from the economic conditions being in place for the government to start calling for forced sterilizations simply because we “can’t afford” the children.  I am completely on board with the idea that society cannot afford to fund Single Motherhood.  But I would hope that most thinking members of society would take the leap in their own minds and understand that an ideological undercurrent of thought around forced abortions and sterilizations is very much a part of the thinking of those who crafted Obamacare.

I can’t remember the title but it was really interesting. Any more recommend readings on this topic?

Sorry Jenny Hatch, I totally don’t buy that all. A) “Obamacare” isn’t universal health care and B) it is not at all going to mandate sterilizations or forced abortions. Whoever’s making these claims (Fox News anyone?) is just flat-out wrong.

I am not scared of universal health care and think it would do this country an enormous good by spreading the costs more evenly and allowing everyone access to services. I can say this because I have lived and worked in France and often used health services for the students we were responsible for. I am also married to a Canadian who longs to go back to his home country and have access to its health care system again. In both countries, you can buy into a private option if you wish. But most people stick with the public option. Anyway this is a whole different can of works. Not going there today.

That message foretells a terrifying future for humanity, and explains why efforts to approach the AIDS epidemic from a logical point of view have been consistently thwarted.

I shall have to admit that I studied the politics of AIDS (HIV disease) for over a decade before I finally came to a horrifying conclusion. The real motivation behind efforts to block utilization of standard public health measures to control further spread of the HIV epidemic was “population control.” That was not an easy concept for me to acknowledge, despite the fact that I had long recognized that the twentieth century has been the bloodiest hundred-year period in all recorded human history.”

Charlotte’s accidental unassisted HBAC (H/T to Mama Birth)

For my first child, I went to a freestanding birth center, where my water broke first, contractions were slow to start, and I got sent home once for being in so much pain, only to be told I was just a 2. I was devastated despite knowing you could go from 2-10 really fast. I labored over 30 hours, tried every trick in the midwifery model, played the “what Would Ina May Do?” game, and decided a transfer for a mercy epidural was prudent. I had been doing deep squats, climbing stairs, walking in the Southern June heat, etc. and was delirious.

It ended in a non-emergency cesarean at hour 42 after my water broke with baby still at a -1 station the entire labor, but with me at 100% effaced and a 9. Her heart tones were great the entire labor. The midwives suspected she was honestly stuck. When she was born, sure enough–her arm and elbow had gotten into a really funky stuck position that hadn’t responded to our deep squats, spinning babies, yoga positions, etc. I got to breastfeed right away in recovery. I won’t say much else about recovery since this is a positive spin on things, but I did just want to note that while I was disappointed I didn’t have her the way it was planned, the actual birth experience was not traumatic for me, and I felt empowered at every choice to increase intervention. I do not believe I had an “unnecesarean.”

For my second baby, I knew for sure I wanted to have a HBAC since I had a non-emergency C-section and a fantastic looking scar. I did not want to be continuously monitored, put on a time clock, or be bullied into doing anything out of fear. I felt like a HBAC with competent care providers would be the safest and healthiest way to bring my baby into the world. That’s why I went with a midwife who had taken on successful HBACs and was very supportive. I will say I am a 6-minute car ride from a hospital with a Level 4 NICU.

For name references, Nancy was my CPM, and her assistant is Andrea, a CPM. Mike is my husband.

I had been crying and emotionally nutty the last 2 days, before my 39-week appointment, thinking I would be pregnant forever, and getting frustrated when I tried to fold my enormous boob into my beautiful new 38HH nursing bra and it wouldn’t quite go—I was just tired of these huge boobs and cried even harder when my left one wouldn’t fit into the cup, and I knew they’d get terrifyingly giant when my milk came in. Everything made me cry.

Lately I had a few issues with fasting morning sugars-they were high enough to be of concern, but not so high as to qualify me for a GD diagnosis. I went on metformin twice a day and followed a strict GD diet. My midwife and family practitioner would correspond and see me both once a week to coordinate care, as the FP is also Charlotte’s doctor. The FP also had a HBAC, so it was a great team who were both trying to do care to allow me to homebirth. We made a plan that we’d give me until the second due date (March 6) to just go ahead and have the baby on my own, but after March 6, we would need to figure out what to do about a possible induction. That would obviously change the homebirth plan completely, but I was very firm I would do what I needed to do about the health of the baby to make sure her transition was the best possible, as she might require extra monitoring for her sugar levels. My midwife was very glad to hear I didn’t shut out options and said we will just cross that bridge when needed.

Andrea checked the position of the baby to see how far down she was in the pelvis, and she was 3/5 of the way in using some sort of 5ths rule British midwives do. That means she was as far down in the canal as she could get before active labor began. I was so happy to hear this, because she was already further down than my first baby was when she was born! Being as how I was near my first due date (2/28) and her position, Nancy told me I could go ahead and pump colostrum to 1. save for the baby in case I needed to help regulate her sugar right away and 2. bring on contractions. She also asked me to get a hold of some donor breastmilk, about 20-30oz., to also help with potential baby sugar regulation if needed.

Sunday: I sent out an email to my playgroup and get some breastmilk to be delivered to me Monday morning! I pumped around noon and got 20ml of liquid gold. We went putzing around the neighborhood from 3:30-4, but not a brisk walk at all. We met my brother at the dog park to let the doggie cousins play, and then we went back to my house to hang out. Around 7 I decided I was going to make a delicious homemade stroganoff, so I did, and wolfed it down. I then realized I had been having fairly regular contractions about 8-10 minutes apart that were different from the BH but not even notable enough to call anyone about them. I remember laughing because how do you not know you’re having contractions after a previous labor of like 42 hours?

Another note: I had been listening to Hypnobabies CDs, attempting to learn to hypnotize myself, but I had no idea if it was “working” or not. I finally just gave up trying to figure out if I really was hypnotizing myself and just enjoyed listening to them while trying to relax or fall asleep for about 2 weeks or so. From about 10-11 I laid on the couch and listened to some tracks.

Around 11 I went to pee and saw pink on the toilet paper and got excited because it was bloody show. I figured I probably would give birth in the next 2 days. Haha, great assumption, right? I called Nancy, who told me to take a shower and go to bed to get some rest, and my doula Julie, who said to call her whenever I needed her.

I showered and shaved my legs, something I hadn’t done since October. I also dried my hair with a round brush just passing the time. I dusted the bedroom and Mike started a load of laundry and dishes and then we went to bed.

From 1-4ish I laid in bed, listened to Hypnobabies easy first stage labor track, sipped water, peed, began to vocalize through some contractions with low moans. I don’t know what it is about the lady’s voice, but she just kept telling me that with each “pressure wave” (contraction) it was bringing me closer to meeting my baby in my beautiful birthing time (I’m telling you, they can get quite cheesy) but at that time I was all like, “Right on, this woman knows what she is talking about, so I will just listen to her tell me these things. And dammit, my uterus IS a special snowflake and knows what it is doing.”

But sometime after 4, the lady was annoying me, and so were the contractions oops! pressure waves. I decided I needed a change of location and Mike said to let him know if he needed me. I made my way to the living room and had these intense sweats and chills, so I went to lie down under my homemade buggie snuggie to watch some guilty pleasure mindless TV recorded on the DVR all geared up for future marathon sessions, and felt my water broke as soon as I was supine. So I hefted my way over to the toilet off the living room and near the kitchen and called for Mike. It is around 4:45am at this point. He comes in with the phone and laptop to start timing contractions at contraction master, and the midwife on the phone asked about baby moving around, color of the water, etc. and said she’d start heading over and she would call Andrea.

I didn’t think to call the doula yet because last labor when I felt like this and went into the birth center, I was only at 2cm. I didn’t really need help through them, and they really were just at the mildly annoying level before my water broke. She also has kids and I didn’t want her to have to leave if I didn’t feel like I truly needed her.

Mike starts putting up dishes and locating the hot water connection in order to fill up the tub the midwife will bring over with her, and I would just call out “s” for start contraction so we have a record to show her. I don’t think to call my doula because I thought I’d wait at least until 6:30 or so so she can sleep. Also, my first child was born 42 hours after my water broke last time, so Mike and I both ASSumed we had plenty of time to let people sleep. He calls my mom and dad to come get my 20 month-old so they’d be here when she woke up to hand her off, as we had decided we didn’t want her at the birth.

5:20ish I tell Mike to start up the tub because I feel like I can get in the tub to wait for them to show up by assuming I was over 5 cm. I really wanted a water birth for the first one, and thought it would be great to have one for my second. I remembered we had some delicious, giant, cold green grapes in the fridge. Mike got me grapes, water, and cold washcloth. I felt like I was going to pass out or throw up. I couldn’t stand up all the way, but felt like maybe I needed another change of location instead of the toilet, as the contractions were at least 1.5 min in length and 1 min. apart. In between, I ate those amazing grapes and sponged myself off. I also just sort of sat there and looked at my weird felted artwork I had made the previous spring. I really was just chillin’ in my own zone. During each contraction I would sort of sway on the toilet and make a low, loud aaaaooooaaahh sound.

At some point I feel like I need to poop and am happy because my body had not cleared itself out like it did last time. I quickly realize, though, that either this is the biggest turd of my life, or it is the baby descending like a train through a tunnel. I figured that out when I was all like, “uuuuuUUUGHHH!” and then the feeling kept going after I was done grunting. Mike had gone to make the bath. I reach down and feel a bulge and know I had better move or the baby will be born in the toilet “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant” style. I get the craziest urge to push and I do bear down and push hard while making this super animalistic noise, very much like what Chewbacca marrying a humpback whale might have sounded like at the end of the raucous wedding reception, but then realize I have got to breathe the baby out and try to chill out so I don’t rip my anus and have all my organs and the baby fall out right there in the toilet. Remember, I had never had a vaginal birth or felt anything like that before, so I was convinced I would also birth my entire pelvic floor. I then felt the ring of fire, but it was more like the sides of a cheese grater and not even fire—just scrapey and really painful! That was the ONLY painful part of labor. At this point I know I don’t have time to get in the tub. I call for Mike, who leaves the bath water running and had heard the change in my labor noises. That’s where he found me semi-standing over the toilet and saw hair–but not MY hair! I remember saying, “This isn’t poop!” and laughing hysterically. I mean, wouldn’t you after playing the “Baby v. Turd?” game in your head?

He says, “HOLY CRAP! It’s the baby’s head. What do I do?” I think he was even too shocked to cuss. I said get me a clean towel and put it on the kitchen floor, which was maybe 4 steps or 2 leaps from the bathroom. He was freaking out because I was really, really calm. I rip off my nightgown, got down on my hands and knees, thinking this would be a good position if there was some sort of shoulder dystocia issue, and my body just literally took over. At that point I really wasn’t in too much pain. I didn’t really feel anything other than a baby’s head just hanging out. It was obvious my body was in control and I was just along for the ride. I attribute being a birth story junkie to knowing what to do, since it’s not like I had previous practice. I think he called the midwife but I don’t quite remember him talking to her, and at one point he put the phone down and wasn’t quite talking to her anyhow. I remember him telling me, “Nancy says to pant!” and I said, “Too late, the baby is coming out and I will ahhhhh her down!” I told him to not pull anything out, the baby would come out on her own, and to be ready to catch.

The rest of her head came out. I asked if he could see a cord around her neck, and he said he did, so I said see if it is loose enough to remove it. It was, and said she was pink. I said wait for her shoulders to turn and she would probably come right out. I was meanwhile just sort of hanging out with a baby hanging out of me, waiting for the next contraction, checking out the tile and dried macaroni noodles that had escaped, and “ahhhhing” during the contractions with my mouth all open super low. When I felt one I pushed/ahhhed, and the rest of her just slid on out into his arms! He removed the rest of the loose cord and she looked around but didn’t cry right away—she was this great pink color. He helped me turn around so I could sit. I told him to get another towel and the snot sucker in case we needed it, we rubbed her down (not much vernix on her) and I checked her airway.

She did let out a few healthy cries but was very snuggly. I felt like I had torn on my right side somewhere and didn’t know the condition of my perineum, but knew I needed to sit in a way to allow the placenta to come out. We made sure the cord wasn’t knotted or constricted and I just held her and talked to her, stared right at her, and offered her my breast if she wanted it to see if the nursing would contract my uterus to get the placenta out while Mike called back (or maybe kept talking) to the midwife. I knew not to do anything crazy like try to cut the cord myself or pull on anything to avoid hemorrhaging, so I literally hung out until about 10 min. later when Andrea arrived first. Since Nancy was on the phone with us, she did not know we had actually HAD the baby already. She immediately got to work. She had Mike cut the cord, which had stopped pulsing, examined Charlotte, examined me, got Charlotte all wrapped up to hand to Mike in warmed up blankets from the dryer while I got again on all fours until the placenta came out about 15 minutes later. She checked that over and nothing was retained. I examined it, too. I got back on the toilet, she cleaned me up, and we made our way to the bedroom.

Nancy arrived and did my vitals while Andrea worked on Charlotte’s vitals. We got started on nursing and they gave us some family time while they both cleaned up in the bathroom and kitchen. We could both hear them in shock since I was definitely not showing any signs of urgency on the phone. I apparently was talking to them as normal as I would any other day–they noticed no sense of panic, urgency, labor lalaland speak, nothing. We ALL thought I had miles to go before I birthed. I am waiting any day for TLC to come up with a show called “I Didn’t Know I Was That Far Along In Labor” or whatever. Maybe I’ll apply to be on another episode of “Extreme Births!”

The next few hours were a party atmosphere, which I had no idea would make me so happy. My parents showed up, totally just expecting to get my first daughter at the door and leave, but we said, “Would you like to meet your new granddaughter?” They were absolutely shocked and it was just such a special moment to recount the story. My daughter woke up and came in and met her little sister. At first she was confused, but got so excited. I cannot believe she slept through the entire thing. We all hung out in there while Charlotte got weighed, measured, etc. My brother also stopped by before work. He was really blown away, as he had left at 9 just that previous night! They all went out as I got 3 stitches for a first degree minor tear and a “skid mark,” but otherwise, my perineum somehow survived! No organs fell out other than the one that was supposed to! My MIL came by on her way to a tennis match and brought biscuits. People left, and the midwives went ahead and had their weekly Monday morning meeting in the front yard.

The rest of the day was a nice rotation of people, all who brought food! Charlotte S. was on her way over with donor breastmilk to help with the transition if needed, and brought all this amazing food and flowers. My friend Amy brought over this whole pasta spread and some good cheer. My FIL brought a big Smithfield Chicken and BBQ spread of food, and my brother came back over to hang out after work. My doula came over later and helped with latching, brought a little birthday cake, and brought the most amazing fresh herb sitz bath. This is such a contrast to the after care I received in the hospital. Having everyone celebrate around you in your own bedroom admiring your new baby is one of the best feelings in the world, with people serving me cold coconut water with bendy straws and wild berry pie!

It literally was the craziest thing I have ever done and Mike and I were such a great team. I am just so happy he did not straight up pass out or run screaming out the front door. I never, ever would have dreamed that I would just have a baby on my kitchen floor with just my family in the house and not even miss a meal. I never actually expected to not experience pain. I kept waiting to yell the “Why did you do this to me?” and “I can’t do this!” statements during transition, but those never happened! Looking back, of course I was in transition right after my water broke. I never actually thought I wouldn’t get any internal checks or monitoring, because I didn’t want to know how many centimeters I was dilated after last birth’s ordeal with the mental devastation of only being at 2cm and being stuck at 5 cm for about 14 hours. I never, ever fathomed that overall, I would not describe the birth as painful (uncomfortable, sure, but not screaming). I also cannot have imagined 2 entirely different labors, as the first was a 42-hour ordeal ending in a c-section, and this one was about 42 minutes of intensity before the baby pretty much just slid out and said, “Hey y’all!”

I think the things that really helped this labor is that I really must have been hypnotized to relax so deeply to deal with contractions, and my body was so safe and secure at home with no one watching me or whatnot to just allow my body to open up like it was supposed to do, that she just had all sorts of factors aligned to come out. I didn’t try to fight things at all and did have confidence in my body. Fear or apprehension were not present at all in this birth. However, I had confidence in my body during my last labor, too, so it really just goes to show that labor is totally unpredictable for both scenarios! My good friend dubbed me the “freak outlier birther” and that does make me laugh.

Charlotte nursed well and we had really enjoyed just lying in bed, snuggling my baby, having people bring me wild berry pie and delicious food, and taking pictures and whatnot. It is night and day difference between my recovery last time and this time. The midwives came to my house every other day to check on us, and again at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 weeks. I hadn’t even gone outside since the walk on Sunday other than to get some sunshine in the back yard. The family doctor said bring her in when I felt up to it up to two weeks, since the midwives were seeing her so frequently. Even there, my care provider was crying with happiness when I shared my story, and had me recount it to several staff members. I really felt like I was in a dream. I stayed in bed with my girls as long as I wanted to because I knew this would never happen again, as we are done having children.

I don’t quite think it has set in for either one of us what exactly happened now 5 months later, and we sure are not thinking of the what-could-have-been type of scenarios. When people ask about the birth, there are usually 2 reactions. The first is the look of fear and horror that pass across faces, because that is their absolute worst nightmare. They all want to know why Mike didn’t tie off the cord with a shoe string or why we didn’t call 911. (Ha!) The rest are usually awestruck and say they totally wish they had that birth in the quiet, calm safety of their home with their little one not even waking up with hardly anyone poking, prodding, etc.

I do hope this story can be inspirational to others who are wishing for a homebirth, a VBAC, a HBAC, or whatever type of birth. Feel free to share it with those who you think might enjoy it!

Recently David Archuleta announced he was going to serve a mission for the LDS church.

For my readers who are curious to know how this works:

Young LDS men and women indicate to their Bishops that they are interested in serving a full time Mission.  They have to be worthy to serve and pass two interviews with Priesthood Leaders.  Then they fill out some paperwork which shares a variety of factual information about them with the church leadership.  They do not get to pick where they will serve and We Believe that the Holy Spirit influences those who make those sacred decisions that the missionaries will be sent to the best place for them to serve.

After a few weeks they receive a “call” and are asked to report to the Mission Training Center in Provo Utah on a certain date.  They pay all expenses for travel to the MTC, clothing, and scriptures etc…and also pay a monthly fee to cover living expenses and incidentals tied to mission life.

The new missionaries are not allowed to phone home or have significant contact with family and friends back home, but they are allowed to skype on Christmas and visit with Family Members.  This is to keep them focused on the work and also provide growth and development during the two years they are in the field.

Young Men age 19 are eligible to serve and Young Women aged 21 are eligible to serve.  The age discrepancy is to discourage fraternization of the young people while they are missionaries and also to encourage young women to marry if they have the opportunity.  All young men are called to serve, and young women are able to go if they so choose.

You do not have to be a lifelong member of the church to serve a mission.

Many times young people will get baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and they will immediately decide that they want to serve.  Some of the best Missionaries I have known over the years have been those on fire with new member enthusiasm who immediately turn around and request to serve.  The church likes to have them faithfully attend church meetings and prepare for Temple Ordinances for a year before they go out to preach the gospel.

I predict David will be an amazing missionary in whatever locale he is called to serve.  And wish him well as he prepares to go.

Michele Bachmann

Michele Bachmann dropped out of the race for the Presidency.  She gave a great speech yesterday and outlined the reasons why she ran.

I endorsed her early and loudly in every sphere of influence I have, and am grateful she took the time, energy, and spent the money to run.

She put the words Crony Capitalism into the political debate, and that is something that has needed to be done for decades in America.

PS I will not be endorsing anyone else, I left the Colorado Republican party this past year and will not be participating in our caucus.  As an Independent who leans Constitution party, I will decide right before the election who to vote for at the state and national level.

I didn’t understand how difficult this part of Mothering was going to be.

It is like they just walked out the door with this huge portion of my heart tucked in their backpacks.

We were able to have several spiritual heart to heart chats while they were home and I think it helped them to understand me better.  Those talks always seem to knit us together tighter.  It is pure joy to go from being a Mom of teens, who supervises curfews  and friends and rules to go to being a mom to adult children who is now “Friend”, who is just there to listen and share in the joy of each developmental milestone.

I love my daughters with my whole heart.

Paul purchased Sarahs Key, the book, for me for christmas.  I noted how much I loved the movie in this blog post.

As I have been slowly digesting this book these past few weeks, I feel the same overwhelm of love that I felt while watching the movie.

This book was so thoughtfully written, and the story of the adulterous husband who wants his wife to abort because he does not want to be an “old father” really touched a nerve.  Not that my husband would ever say to me, “it’s me or the baby” as the husband did in this book/movie, but if I had understood how passionate my own husband would feel about not having babies into his “old age”, I may have looked for a life partner more my own age.

Paul is nine years older than me and is now well into his fifties.

He has been extremely traumatized by the life events we have shared together and so I give him a ton of credit for the faith leap that having our five children placed upon his shoulders.

When I lost my mind in 1989 after the birth of our first daughter, we did not know if we would be able to have any more children.  Paul confided in me that he wanted to run away from home many times the year that I was doped up on psychiatric meds and he was married to a stepford wife. (I was on a cocktail of several drugs – Lithium, Stelazine, Prozac, and Haldol – that left me in a permanent fog of disability and numbed out nothingness)  During the past 23 years it has been a consistent faith walk to search out our hearts and decide how much we could handle as parents.

When I was expecting Ben in 2002 Rusty Yates was being hammered in the media as the source of his wifes psychosis.  Andrea murdered her five children while in the throes of post partum psychosis.  Many of us in the psychiatric survivor movement believe it was the anti depressant she was taking that was the source of this homicidal rampage.

Paul was deeply affected by this incident and the similarities between our two families was striking.  I was homeschooling, had four older children, was pregnant with number five, we are deeply religious, live in a small home, and had a former psychotic episode after a birth.

Dr. Bob Scaer MD of Boulder connects post partum psychosis to Father/Daughter rape.  I had no conscious memory of being sexually assaulted by my Dad until five years ago.  But the symptoms, including psychosis in 1989, have been constant.  I have struggled with a variety of emotional and physical symptoms for my whole life.  I was finally properly diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress ten years ago, and have been working with a variety of healers and healing modalities to recover from the incest and rape that defined my childhood.  I also had a layering of trauma when I was gang raped in the Michigan state mental hospital by four orderlies when I was admitted  in a psychotic state in 1989.

I continue to have memories of being sexually assaulted and as each incident presents in my conscious mind, it is like it just happened yesterday and so I have to slowly process out the feelings and emotions buried by my childhood brain. I find myself often in a childlike state of mind while moving the memory through my system.  The holidays are a key time for me to process as that was when the majority of the assaults took place during my childhood.

As another layer of trauma moved through my body and mind these past few weeks during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday, I found myself in varying states of emotional distress.  On a particularly difficult day I watched Sarahs Key, the movie, and in the movie a mother commits suicide leaving a nine year old child motherless.  My son Ben is nine and as I watched the movie I felt the power of the story just wash over me.  I have struggled with suicidal thoughts since I was fifteen, and although I have never made an attempt, I have been hospitalized for it twice.

During Thanksgiving week I was processing out some terrible memories alone, and while I don’t believe I would ever do it, the fact that it was on my mind in a big way was troubling. I did not have anyone to talk to, and felt overwhelmed by the emotions.  One of the big fears for us as survivors is that the “treatment” will be worse than what we are experiencing.  For me that has been the case many times when I confided in someone what I was feeling.  The overreaction from those around me caused more trauma than if I had just kept my thoughts to myself and so I have learned to be very circumspect about who I share my innermost feelings with.

When in the throes of panic and overwhelm it is often easy to over share with professionals.  I stopped seeing therapists a few years ago because I did not want to waste one more second of my time or money.  It felt like I was giving my abusers additional power over my life by giving in and going to talk to someone.  I am NOT knocking therapy.  The people I worked with ten years ago were CRUCIAL to helping me and Paul to begin working through this process and I don’t regret one dollar spent as we started down this path.  But after spending tens of thousands of dollars on a variety of healing systems, it became apparent that trying to speed the healing process by spending more and more money was not going to work.

The main reason I wanted to hurry things along was because I wanted to have another baby.

I was unprepared for several additional traumas that set me back physically and emotionally.  Traumas and blowback tied to my internet work and political activism.

Traumas that have left me on deaths door over and over these past six years. All of this trauma mixed together has left me feeling like an emotional basket case.  Again, I don’t blame Paul, our life is what it is, and I am daily grateful for the blessing of being a mother to each of our five children.  I love all of them with my whole heart and praise God for the gift and blessing of having them in my life.

I am curious to see what a pregnancy would be like with no trauma rolling through my body.  I know I may have to wait until I get my Celestial Body to have this experience, but I long to welcome another baby into our home now.  Along with the portions of my life that have been stolen by evil people intent on causing me damage and harm, I feel like my “really big family” which I had planned and prepared to have for my whole life has also been “stolen” away from me.

I suppose this is the reason why Sarahs Key resonated so much in my mind at this time.  It wasn’t just the story of a suicidal mother that triggered so much in my heart.  Watching the movie three times during Thanksgiving week was the PERFECT reminder of the consequences to my little boy if I decided to leave this earth life early.  It was also the story of the mother who left her husband in order to give birth to a beautiful baby that moved me in ways that overwhelm and comfort my heart.

Women will go to extremes in order to protect and give life.  I don’t plan to leave my husband in order to have more children.  Five is enough for me and for us.  But I can understand why a woman would be willing to throw a marriage down the tubes if her husband was pressuring her to have an abortion.

At this point I can hardly envision a world where as Isaiah predicted, “None shall hurt nor destroy“, but I can see it from a distance.  We are quickly approaching the time when those who hurt children will never be able to get away with what they have in the past.  All of these sexual abuse scandals that are coming out are proof that our world is moving towards a time when those who have placed themselves in a position of trust and are able to destroy the lives of innocents will be caught, held accountable, and then locked away from society.

It is an exciting thing to consider…
