Whole wheat apple pie

Shelly, Ben, and I baked bread, gingerbread cookies, and apple pie to take to Hockstads for Thanksgiving tomorrow! The wafting scents were delightful!
Whole Wheat Pie Crust

2 sticks Butter

1/4 c Sugar

5 cups whole wheat flour

1/4 c cold water

pinch salt
Mix butter and sugar until fluffy, add flour and beat until mixed well, then gradually add water into mixer until dough pulls away from side of the bowl. (I use the cookie paddles with my bosche)
Roll out the dough, spread on pie pan, and fill with chopped apples (I used a mix of mostly granny smiths with a few other varieties)
I mixed the apples with the juice of one lemon, 1 cup sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg – another pinch of salt and put 3 Tbs of butter on the top.
We don’t like a big thick pinched crust, so I just put the topper on and smooshed the edges together.
I peeled and chopped about 12 apples. This is a huge pie. Bake at 350 for 80 minutes!
A star cookie cutter provided my vent for steam and a “little” attempt at being decorative. Eat your heart out Martha Stewart.
I usually only bake pie once a year on Thankgsgiving. We also made the gingerbread dough to continue our tradition of baking the first batch of Christmas Cookies on Thanksgiving night.

I had to work today, so didn’t make a video tutorial, but here is Ben age four giving the lowdown on cookies, birds, hawks, and stuff…
